The images on this page are taken from the famous "Study of Human Proportions in the Manner of Vitruvius" by Leonardo da Vinci, drawn circa 1492. According to Renaissance ideas, the "Perfect Man" was based on geometric principles. The arms outstretched, the top of the head and the tip of the feet define a square. The tips of the arms and legs outstretched in a fanlike position inscribe a circle centred on the navel.
The World Wide Web is still very much built on HTML (HyperText Markup Language). Users wishing to produce web sites without programming normally make use of one or more “Web Development” or “Web Creation” tools such as Microsoft FrontPage, NetObjects Fusion MX and Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. These software packages do not design web sites, but they facilitate the conversion of design concepts into a web compatible format. At the most basic level they all provide “Site Wizards”, “Themes”, and “Templates”, with lots “WYSIWYG” design tools [“what-you-see-is-what-you-get”], together with drag-and-drop placement and a visual control interface for layout and navigation design.
Site “Wizards” or “Templates” create the structure of an unpopulated web site against a selection of criteria considered suitable to the type of web site required. It is then possible to employ “Themes” which apply a particular “look” to individual pages or the complete web site. The Wizards, Templates and Themes can be customised by changing font types, colours and the navigation buttons. Finally special features may be incorporated such as animations or scripts.
