Ethernet over Coaxial Cable
Technetix Ethernet over Coax Adapters form a series of ingenious solutions designed to lower the total cost of IP video installations. Many existing CCTV systems employ co-axial cable as the video transmission media with some sites having 10s or 100s of kilometres already installed. By employing a pair of adapters it is now possible to use this existing coaxial cable to transmit fully specified Ethernet signals transparently across a link of up to 350m.
Note. A power transmission capability (maximum 60W) means that no power is required at the remote end.
The adapters are also useful for providing Ethernet connections in excess of the normally permitted 100m. With a maximum range of 350m, a pair of adapters can become a low cost alternative to fibre-optic media or can simply save the cost of having to add an in-line repeater on standard Ethernet connections.
The units are plug 'n' play with no set-up procedures. Simply connect the cables and fix into position then plug in any Ethernet device, such as an IP camera, access controller, video server or any other Ethernet compliant piece of equipment.
The adapters convert the symmetrical send/receive Ethernet signals into asymmetrical signals and then combine them to be transported over a single strand of copper. [See .] To compensate for the loss that occurs during conversion, the system re-amplifies the received signal. [See , as a function of current, for different types of coaxial cable.]
