Devices which are not PoE Compatible can be converted to Power-over-Ethernet by way of “Active Ethernet Splitters. These devices separate the converged data and power from the PoE switch or mid-span into two independent lines. The majority of Axis Network Cameras and Video Servers lack built-in support for PoE and require the use of an Active Ethernet Splitter.
The Power over Ethernet switches or mid-spans can be connected to a UPS (uninterrupted power supply), which enables all connected devices to continue to operate in the event of a power failure.
The connection options are summarised in the diagram below.
Active Splitter
The active splitter separates the converged data and power lines into two independent lines and converts the 48VDC injected PoE voltage according to the end point device specifications.

The PowerDsine Active Splitter PD-AS-801/12 can be used with the following Axis products: 210,
213,
230, 2100, 2110, 2120 and 2420 Network Cameras Axis 2400+, 2401+, 2411,
241Q and
241S. The PD-AS-801/12 must be used with a PowerDsine 8000 Series Mid-span.

The PowerDsine Active Splitter PD-AS-601 (802.3af compatible) can be used with the Axis 200 series of network cameras.
