Ethernet over Coax - UCA-6124 Adapter
The Technetix UCA-6124 is the first in a series of ingenious solutions designed to lower the total cost of IP video installations. Many existing CCTV systems employ co-axial cable as the video transmission media with some sites having 10s or 100s of kilometres already installed. By employing a pair of UCA-6124s it is now possible to use this existing coaxial cable to transmit fully specified Ethernet signals transparently across a link of up to 350m. A power transmission capability (maximum 60W) means that no power is required at the remote end and this can further reduce the cost of new installations.

The UCA-6124 is also useful for providing Ethernet connections in excess of the normally permitted 100m. With a maximum range of 350m, a pair of UCA-6124s can become a low cost alternative to fibre-optic media or can simply save the cost of having to add an in-line repeater on standard Ethernet connections.

The units are effectively plug 'n' play with no complicated set-up procedures. Simply connect the cables and fix into position then plug in any Ethernet device - IP cameras, access controllers, video servers or any other Ethernet compliant piece of equipment. The adapters convert the symmetrical send/receive Ethernet signals into asymmetrical signals and then combine them to be transported over a single strand of copper. [See Ethernet over Coax - Revisited.] To compensate for the loss that occurs during conversion, the system re-amplifies the received signal.
