System overview
The Axis 292 Network Video Decoder can be used mainly in two scenarios; an IP-Surveillance network and connecting existing analogue systems.

What you need:

•  An Axis MPEG-4 or Motion JPEG-based video server or network camera
•  An analogue composite or Y/C (S-VHS) video monitor or other device with an analogue input
•  Coax cable
•  Standard Ethernet cable
•  An available port on your hub or router
IP-Surveillance network
The Axis 292 Network Video Decoder is ideal where there is a need to display live video on an analogue monitor.
Explaination of Diagram
Digital video is generated in Axis network cameras
Digital video is sent over an Ethernet network (e.g. LAN/WAN/Internet)
A PC for viewing the network video remotely using a standard Web browser
Digital video is decoded and made available to an analogue monitor
A server with video management software, for example Axis Camera Station, is used for viewing, monitoring, recording and playback, as well as event management functions
Connecting existing analogue systems
The Axis 292 Network Video Decoder can be used for easily and cost-effectively connecting existing analogue video surveillance systems at different locations. Video from analogue cameras, optionally combined with audio streams, can be transferred via Axis video servers over an IP network, bridging long or short distances, and be converted back to analogue video and audio by Axis 292 decoders at any location on the network.
